Malick win 10-0 in girls Intercol

DEFENDING champs Malick continued their impressive form in the RBTT Girls Intercol series with a 10-0 mauling of El Dorado in yesterday’s quarter-final at QRC Grounds, St Clair.

And in the other match of the double-header, 2002 runners-up St George’s cruised past Maple Leaf 6-1. Malick were merciless towards their Eastern opponents, storming to a 5-0 halftime lead and adding another five in the second half. In the end, national striker Tanekar Alexander and Asuya Gibbons notched three goals apiece for Malick, Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Nadia James scored twice while fellow TT midfielder Nyasha Reyes and Afiya Castle added one apiece.

Malick will now meet Providence in the semis on Thursday, but the Northerners went the full distance against Moruga yesterday. Providence needed kicks from the penalty spot to defeat Moruga 4-3 after both teams battled to a 3-3 draw after 70 minutes of full time and 20 minutes of sudden-death injury time. National midfielder Aveann Douglas found the back of the net twice as St George’s ended Maple Leaf’s season at the QRC Grounds. Nneka Garcia, Lakeisha Clarke, Kermica Alexander and Chantel Forde were also on target for the East Zone winners. St George’s will oppose Diego Martin in Thursday’s semifinals, after the North Zone runners-up inflicted a 6-1 drubbing on Toco at the El Dorado Secondary Grounds.
