St James woman charged with fraud again
A ST JAMES woman who was found guilty of a fraud charge on Friday was again arrested and charged with one man and two other women for conspiring to defraud the Ministry of Health of $211,603.60
Zenovia Susan Edwards, Phillip Williams, Samuel Seenath and Shelly Ann Salandy appeared before Magistrate Ejenny Espinet at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ First Court charged with a total of 29 counts of conspiring to defraud the Ministry of Health by falsely pretending to be employees attached to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital at different intervals between January 1, 1997 and October 5, 1998. Edwards had previously been charged for a similar offence and was found guilty on Friday, when she was placed on a $20,000 bond, ordered to seek counselling from a Probation Officer and to keep the peace for four years by Justice Paula Mae Weekes at the Port-of-Spain Assizes.
The offence had occurred between October 1 and November 19 1998, when she had prepared and submitted to her employer, the Ministry of Health, salary sheets in favour of 36 medical officers in the sum of $392,832. She was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 to cover all charges. Williams and Seenath were each granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with a surety to be approved by the Clerk of the Peace and Salandy was granted bail in the sum of $35,000. The four were charged on November 14 by Acting Cpl Brian Peters of the Fraud Squad and will reappear in court on November 27. Edwards was represented by attorney Larry Lalla.
