$2M demanded for kidnapped man
A RANSOM demand of $2 million has been made for the safe release of Chaguanas kidnap victim Christopher Maharaj.
Police sources confirmed this yesterday, saying Maharaj’s abductors contacted his family on Monday evening at their (the family) Caussaira Crescent, Lange Park, Chaguanas home, demanding that the ransom be paid yesterday or the family would never see Maharaj alive again. Maharaj is the son of a prominent Chaguanas businessman who operates Bess Motor Ltd at Montrose, Chaguanas. It was reported that Maharaj was abducted around 9 pm on Sunday, after leaving his girlfriend’s home at Chin Johnson Road, Todds Road. According to police sources, Maharaj’s car was blocked by a silver-grey Nissan B14 Sentra from which three masked, armed men alighted and dragged Maharaj from his white Nissan B14 Sentra, before kidnapping him.
This is the second person to have been kidnapped in the Maharaj family. In September last year, Robby Maharaj, 28, the son of the owner of Ramo’s Auto Garage, was snatched from in front of his Enterprise home. Ten days later, Robby was rescued from a house at Firebourne Road, Freeport. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) and Chaguanas CID are investigating the kidnapping. Police sources reported that the family was advised by AKS officers not to speak with the media on the incident. Up to late yesterday evening, Maharaj’s whereabouts were still unknown.
