Murder accused denies beating fellow inmate

A MAN on a murder charge yesterday pleaded not guilty before a San Fernando magistrate to a charge of assaulting a fellow Remand Yard inmate, who had to be hospitalised after being attacked.

Ronald John, 27, appeared before Fourth Court Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan to face the charge. Cpl Ali was the court prosecutor. The  incident is alleged to have occurred around 3.45 pm on Monday in the cell block section of the San Fernando Magistrates’ courthouse. Remand Yard inmate Glen McKenzie is claiming that he was beaten about his face and body during an argument with another prisoner. Mc Kenzie was taken to the nearby San Fernando General Hospital after the alleged incident. However, John has denied being the person who beat McKenzie. Rambachan adjourned the wounding case to November 24 — the same day John has to reappear in court on a murder charge.
