Robbery victim spots stolen car parked on road
A PRINCES Town man was arrested Wednesday after the owner of a car which had been stolen at gunpoint 18 days ago, spotted the vehicle parked at the side of a road in Princes Town and alerted the police. The suspect has since been taken to the Arima Police Station, where late yesterday he was supposed to have been placed on an identification parade. He is expected to be charged with armed robbery. According to police sources, Andre Joseph of Olton Road, Arima, was robbed of his white Nissan Sentra by five gun-toting bandits on November 1. Yesterday, Joseph was in Princes Town when he spotted his stolen car parked at the Naparima/Mayaro Road, opposite a Furniture Store. Joseph contacted Princes Town police and a team of officers led by Cpl Gregory Renwick and including PC Dane Halls, arrived on the scene and placed the vehicle under surveillance.
Moments later, police spotted a man who lives at Jagville Avenue, Princes Town, enter Joseph’s car and start the engine. The officers quickly ran to the car and ordered the suspect out of the vehicle. Joseph identified the man as being one of the five bandits, who had held him (Joseph) up. The suspect was taken to the Princes Town Police Station where he was interrogated and later handed over to Arima police, who are expected to charge him. Joseph’s vehicle has been impounded by police who plan to search for fingerprint clues.
