Popular president says NACTA poll
THE EDITOR: I see that the latest NACTA Poll has revealed that President Max Richards is the most popular person in Trinidad and Tobago. I had a feeling that the Professor would eventually grow to be a popular Head of State, after hearing his address to the nation when he was inaugurated. His advisers must also be complimented for developing the President’s positive, caring image in such a short space of time. His nomination was not acceptable to the entire population at first, especially as he was subjected to one of the most crass examples of character assassination the country has ever seen by one of the daily papers. (not Newsday). This campaign has continued, with that paper reporting recently that the President was playing ‘mas in Miami when in fact he was at a conference in another country.
Why hasn’t the Media Complaints Committee acted on this incident? The President’s interest in the plight of the disabled and his comments on the lack of a proper strategy to deal with the failure of the education system is laudable, and he must continue to receive the support of the many people who are interested in change.
