Percy: I am really eager to vote

“I am a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago and I would not miss the opportunity to vote. I want to do so badly,” Villafana said in a phone interview yesterday.

On March 15, this year, Villafana, 81, of Real Street, San Juan, crossed his hands and barred Manning from entering his home during a walkabout in San Juan. The gesture, Villafana later said, was aimed at “warding off evil”. Days later, during a Parliamentary sitting Manning said his checks revealed that Villafana lived in Winnipeg, Canada, and was only a visitor to TT during the winter.

But checks with the Elections and Boundaries Commission yesterday revealed that Villafana was registered to vote in the constituency of St Joseph.

“I checked, and made sure my name was on the electoral list so I would be voting,” he added, “If I had to vote twice, I would vote three times.”

Villafana, fondly called “Piggy”, said part of his eagerness to cast his ballot in the upcoming General Election, was to ensure there was change of government. “I would like to see Manning out of the government,” Villafana said.

“I don’t belong to a political party, but I am definitely not a PNM (member).”

He said he was extremely pleased at Wednesday’s accord signing between the Opposition parties.

But where would his vote go? Although he did not say outright, he again hinted his choice of the UNC and Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

“It would be a nice change for TT to have a female Prime Minister.”
