Rugby takes over Dwight Yorke Stadium

THE Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Football Union (TTRFU) President’s XV will oppose a  Tobago Rugby Football Club President’s XV at  both  men and  women rugby at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago. The women will take the field first at 4.30 pm today, while the men‘s game begins at 6 pm.

Anthony Loregnard, chairman of the TTRFU selection committee, both games will serve as much-needed preparation for the inaugural NAWIRA Women’s Rugby Championship, which will be staged in Trinidad next month, while the men are fine-tuning their skills ahead of the IRB Rugby Sevens tournament in Los Angeles scheduled for next February. Including in today’s entrance fee of $30 is a ticket for the Tobago RFC fourth annual fund-raising barbeque which will be served at 5.30 pm. And TTRFU treasurer Curtis Nero is delighted at the gesture displayed by the Tobagonians. “They approached the TTRFU with the idea of sending two TTRFU teams,” he noted. “Although there is a cost the executive considered it beneficial in the development and promotion of rugby in Tobago.” “I expect hard-fought rugby as the players seek to catch the eyes of the selectors,” he ended.
