IATF nabs ten and police/army gear

An early morning exercise conducted in the Laventille area by members of the Inter Agency (police/army unit) Task Force, headed by Snr Supt Errol Denoon and coordinated by Ag Inspector Sahadeo Singh, resulted in the arrest of ten persons for various offences and the seizure of a quantity of army and police wear. According to reports police arrested several persons wanted for various crimes from robbery, to murder, kidnapping and narcotics offences. The officers then went to Seed Lane, Laventille, where they found in an unoccupied house a quantity of police and army trousers, hats, shirts, gunbelts, shoes, bullet-proof vests, camouflage outfits, wigs and false driving permits.

Police also seized a quantity of licence plates in the Nelson Street area and regimental numbers which they believe belong to the police. Senior police sources told Newsday they believe that the uniforms and gear were used by a gang whom the police have been looking for. The gang had been using the items in robberies. “We have been looking for these gang members who have been using these uniforms for a long time. “While we cannot yet link the uniforms to the gang members, since they were found in an unoccupied house, we are investigating.” The ten arrested gang members are to appear before several identifications parades on Monday and before a Port-of-Spain magistrate on Wednesday.
