Four injured in Beetham smash-up

FOUR persons were injured in a car accident on the Beetham Highway late yesterday afternoon. One of the two cars involved in the accident knocked down a utility pole, the third such occurrence within the past few days. Quite a number of nearby residents rushed to the assistance of the victims who were bleeding.  Residents pleaded with passers-by to assist in taking some of the injured to the hospital but there was little compliance. Only one good samaritan decided to help and he had to put his children out of his vehicle in order to accommodate the accident victims. Police and fire officers were on the scene in a matter of minutes and the driver of the more seriously damaged vehicle was taken into the police car. Meanwhile the driver of the other vehicle, a young woman cried uncontrollably as she appereared to be still in shock.
