Smart And Lucky and Fabulous Risk please at galops

TRAINER John O’Brien’s stable which has been having a lean season, particularly over the last four months, is back on track. He seems to have found the remedy for the drought experienced and could dominate some of the major events at the back-end of the current season. The champion trainer has a wealth of young talent in his stable, and since  Since Smart and Lucky broke the dry spell first time of asking last month, and Fabulous Risk did the same at the beginning of this  month, he has grown in  confidence. O’Brien’s stable is firing on all cylinders as evidence showed up clearly on the gallops course at Santa Rosa Park, when the Roland Khan-owned pair of American-bred juveniles and other members of the stable impressed. A known fact about Khan is that he never likes to have his runners compete against each other, and with both entered for the Imported Juvenile Sprint he has to make a decision.

But after having watched  the pair work out, O’Brien  must have been in a quandary as to which will represent his barn. The pair hooked up from the 800-metres to the winning line in 46.68 seconds. Smart And Lucky with Nobel Abrego up, held a slight advantage throughout, but Wilmer Galviz aboard his companion seemed to have had plenty in reserve helping the decision to be an unenviable one. Grey Warrior, an unraced member of the same team and Tuzami was sent for schooling from the boxes. The more experienced Tuzami opened her gate ahead of her stablemate, who raced up to join proceedings. The pair covered the distance between the 1200 and 600-metre markers in 34.20 seconds. French Academy who is listed to make his debut in the Caribbean Juvenile Sprint also went to the boxes. With no supervision he gave his rider some anxious moments before being loaded, but settled down to the task and on leaving clocked 36.06 seconds between the same points. Pave The Way and Twice Invincibility were others to impress. The babes from trainer Grant Lourenco’s barn opened their gates like seasoned campaigners and showed spark over the same acreage in 33.93 seconds to be best on time for the distance.
