Car thief held with gun, ammo
A 24-YEAR-OLD man who, along with a group of men, was caught “red handed” stripping a stolen silver Nissan Primera, was arrested by officers of the E999 Rapid Response and Chaguanas CID on Sunday night.
According to police sources, around 10.30 pm police spotted a group of men stripping the stolen vehicle near Egypt Road, Cunupia. Police said the vehicle had been stolen in the South Trinidad. On seeing the policemen, some of the suspects jumped into a nearby Toyota Corolla which sped off, while the rest scattered into a nearby cane field. Some of the officers sped off after the suspects who drove off in the Toyota, while other officers carried out searches in the canefield, eventually apprehending the suspect who was armed wit a .22 pistol and six rounds of ammunition. The suspect who lives at Southern Main Road, Enterprise, Chaguanas, has been charged with possession of arms and ammunition and was scheduled to appear before a magistrate yesterday. The search is continuing for the other suspects. Officers of Chaguanas CID are investigating.
