Two found dead in Moruga

Two Moruga men who are believed to have died from natural causes, have been discovered within a 12-hour period. According to police sources, around 8 pm on Monday, 52-year-old Clifford Joules Bridgewater was found dead in his hut on Gran Chemin Beach. Newsday understands that his fisherman friend, Winston Auxley, came by Bridgewater’s home to check up on him since he (Bridgewater) was complaining of having severe chest pains. Bridegwater was also known to be a very ill man.

Auxley related to police that on visiting Bridgewater’s home, he found it strange that there was no answer when he called out to him. After standing outside the hut for a while, Auxley reportedly broke down the front door, discovering Bridgewater, his friend for years, lying on the bed in the hut. He realised that Bridgewater was not breathing and summoned the District Medical Officer who pronounced him dead. The body bore no marks of violence and was later taken to the San Fernando Mortuary and a post-mortem is expected to be carried out today. In another incident, around 7 am yesterday, 35-year-old Anthony Joseph was discovered dead by his elderly parents who live in Chacha Trace, Moruga.

Reports stated that Joseph suffered from complications of sicknesses for over five years and was always in and out of the San Fernando General Hospital. Police were told that Joseph was recently discharged from the hospital where he had been warded and treated for a few weeks. Joseph’s body was discovered by his parents when they went into his bedroom to administer his daily medicine. A post-mortem is expected to be carried out today at the San Fernando General Hospital. Cpl Michael Alpheus of the Moruga Police Station is investigating both incidents.
