Ex-YTC inmate executed

A 20-year-old Tobagonian became the country’s 207th murder victim for the year when he was executed while asleep at his Factory Road, Diego Martin, home early yesterday.

Jason Walcott, alias “Gargamel,” was asleep on a mattress when he was shot with a single bullet to the forehead. His body was only discovered around 7 am yesterday. Reports revealed that around 10 pm on Wedn-esday, two rival gang members were involved in a shootout with each other at Factory Road. Several spent shells were recovered following the shootout. Reports revealed that Walcott was questioned about the whereabouts of a man. Walcott claimed to have no knowledge about the man and returned to the unfinished house where he was staying. At around 1 am yesterday, a single gunshot was heard but no one ventured outside through fear of being shot.

Around 7 am yesterday, the body of Walcott was found in a pool of blood. Officers of the West End Police Station visited the scene along with a District Medical Officer. The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre. When Newsday visited the scene of the shooting, a relative of the dead man was carrying out clean-up up operations. The pool of blood was still visible. Investigators told News-day that Walcott was released from the Youth Training Centre in Arouca in June. They claimed that he was involved in a gang. Snr Supt Quashie and Sgt Samuel Seepersad along with other officers visited the scene and investigations are continuing.
