Worshipping the ‘I’ instead of creator
THE EDITOR: Christianity is in crisis. Christianity is under attack, not by non-Christians, not by atheists, but by Christian leaders who are supposed to be the soldiers of Christ.
These persons have been trained to assist the ordinary man or layperson in obtaining spiritual growth and maturity in order to live successful lives, through knowledge of the Bible. Yet, we are seeing in front of our very eyes, on the newspapers and television, the depraved actions of selfish men who are supposed to know better, promoting same-sex relationships and abusing little boys. Just take a look at the amount of money the Catholic church of North America intends to pay out to persons who were abused by supposedly holy men.
The Holy Bible represents biblical truth. Christians are supposed to live by and follow diligently these biblical truths. When such misbehaviour takes place, and with communication so effective in today’s world, it means that our young minds will be exposed to morality of the lowest form. We are already having so many problems of misbehaviour of all sorts among the young. Parents are finding themselves struggling to get their children to do the right things. Therefore, they urgently need the unswerving support of Christian leaders. How can these Christian leaders say that their authority is the word of God and the Bible when they are going against God’s words. Here is what the Bible says about homosexuality: Because of it, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.
Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion (Romans 1:26-27 NIV). God’s plan for natural sexual relationships is his ideal for his creation. Unfortunately, sin distorts the natural use of God’s gifts. Sin often means not only denying God, but also denying the way we are made. When people say that any sex act is acceptable as long as nobody gets hurt, they are fooling themselves. In the long run (and often in the short run), sin hurts people — individuals, families, and whole societies. How sad it is that some people worship the “I” in them, instead of the Creator. Because of their selfishness they so often distort and destroy the very things they claim to value!
