Another man charged in Rancho Quemado murder

JUST over a month after two men appeared in court charged with the murder of Nigel Singh, a third person appeared before a San Fernando Magistrate on Wednesday, charged for Singh’s murder.

David George Huggins, 31, appeared in the First Court before acting deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington, who after reading out the charge, remanded Huggins into custody and transferred the case to the Siparia Magistrates’ Court. Singh was abducted from his Rancho Quemado home in early September. His body was found hours later lying near an oil well. In addition to the murder charge, Huggins was also slapped with possession of a revolver and possession of five rounds of ammunition. All three charges were laid indictably and although the arms and ammunition charges were bailable offences, Huggins was remanded into custody since the charge of murder is non-bailable.

Huggins was represented by attorney Ian Gray. While the murder charge was transferred to another magistrates’ court, the arms and ammunition charges will be heard at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court. PC Simon of San Fernando CID preferred the arms and ammunition charges against Huggins, who was arrested last Saturday. The murder case was adjourned to December 1, while the arms and ammunition charges will be heard on December 5.
