Frustrated man drinks poison
FRUSTRATED with a life of unemployment, a 21-year-old man yesterday mixed several toxic substances into a concoction and drank it in an apparent suicide attempt.
However, up to late yesterday evening, the man was still alive — warded in critical but stable condition at San Fernando General Hospital. Police told Newsday the man lived alone in a galvanised shack in Claxton Bay and had not been working for some time. According to police reports, around 1.30 pm, he dissolved four blocks of rat poison along with sevens-powder into a liquid, which he then ingested. The young man ran out of the shack screaming before he collapsed. Frightened neighbours alerted the police who in turn telephoned an Emergency Health Services (EHS) ambulance. When medical technicians arrived, they found the semi-conscious man lying face down in his yard. He was taken to hospital where he was treated and warded. Police are investigating.
