TTUTA turns up heat for Trini teachers

Following the meeting of the General Council of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association, TTUTA has decided that they will hold back their threats of taking strong action if Tobago teachers were not paid their monies by November 30. TTUTA President Trevor Oliver said the decision was taken since 40 percent of the teachers had already been paid. “We do not want to put unnecessary pressure on the government. Forty percent of the teachers have already been paid and we feel that progress is being made.” Oliver said the payment of arrears of increments to Tobago teachers is a substantial victory for the teachers of the sister isle.  However, the call to turn up the heat on the government remains the same as far as payments of arrears of increments for teachers here in Trinidad are concerned. According to the TTUTA president, “the pace is far too slow. The call remains the same for teachers here. Strong action will be taken if teachers in Trinidad are not paid what is rightfully theirs.” Oliver said TTUTA will meet with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education tomorrow, where they will again address matters of concern.
