Heavy rains hit Tobago

TTEC and TSTT repair crews had to be dispatched throughout Tobago Friday to repair fallen poles and cables caused by several landslides resulting from consistent rainfall on Thursday into Friday. Traffic on the northern and eastern ends of the island had to be diverted as parts of the main roads leading to Scarborough were blocked. At Charlotteville, in the east, a tree that had fallen across the road prevented heavy duty vehicles from entering and leaving the village and in the Kendall/Belle Garden area, the main road was reported to be impassable. The link road in that area, also known as Top Road, was used as an alternate route. The Division of Infrastructure and Public Utilities also sent out a crew to deal with the landslides. According to reports, most of the slides had been cleared and power restored to the affected areas by noon.
