Debe High girls score v-ball double

DEBE High School girls Under-16s  matched their male counterparts with two exciting victories in the Trinidad and Tobago Secondary Schools South Zonal Volleyball series. Led by power smashes from captain Victoria Ramsawak, DHS whipped former zonal champions St Josephs Convent, San Fernando 25-12 and 25-20 at the SJC court. And to prove  they will become a force to reckon with, Ramsawak and her team-mates put on another fine performance against Irie High School in their clash at the Pleasantville-based South Regional Indoor Sports Arena (SRISA).

Playing together for the first time since the school opened three years ago, Debe High emerged victorious at 25-13 and 25-18. School’s manager Katrina Inglis was overwhelmed with these two victories and said: “The girls played hard to win both matches. The boys won their first match and the girls wanted badly to win as well, so they fought very hard and were over-elated with their success. These victories will definitely inspire them to train harder. “In the match against Convent, they played in the hot sun for the first time. And some of them wilted under the heat but they never gave up while the match at the Pleasantville Complex was easier because it was indoors.” Ramsawak received solid support from setter Reshma Lall, Skyla Bisnath, Kristal Sam, Seema Charles and Amanda Phangyou.

DHS boys Under-16s  bowed to zonal and national runners-up Naparima in an absorbing three-setter. Lack of experience was their undoing but Shane Ramsahai, Toolsie Ramnarine and Avinash Persad showed good form to provide the biggest scare for Naps. They won the first set at 25-23, lost the second at 20-25 and were leading 11-4 in the decisive third. But Kiran Narinesingh and Christopher SiewSankar combined to block out Debe attackers and effected telling blows with superb smashes to clinch victory at 12-15. It was a nail-biting cliffhanger, which saw the Naps outfit, coached by Nazim Mohammed, proving its worth. Mario Callender sparked Naps Under 20s to a comfortable 25-16 and 25-20 victory over Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive Under 20 team.
