North Oropouche win TTCB prize

NORTH OROPUCHE RC won  the Flavorite Under-10 School Develop-ment Programme organised by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and the $600 cash prize trophy. This programme aims at integrating cricket as a sport into all aspects of the school curriculum including English Language, Essay Writing, Art, Craft, Singing, Mathematics, History, Geography and Social Studies. This, according to project co-ordinator Kumar Rampat technical development officer of the West Indies Cricket Board. Rampat who also heads the TTCB youth development committee said this year, its fourth edition, approximately 150 schools participated across Trinidad and Tobago.

And according to the judges “the contest was very keen and exciting in all categories.” First five schools were:  1. North Oropuche RC;  2. Egypt Government $400 and trophy; 3. Morvant Anglican $400; 4. Penal Quinam Government $300. Tara Maharaj-Ali collected the $300 prize for being teacher of the winning project, while leading student Nadia Ali got $200 and a trophy. Flavorite Ice Cream Limited were again sponsors for the fourth year. But rain threw a damper on the prize distribution ceremony, preventing a planned cricket match. Instead cricketing skills were taught in batting, bowling and fielding, supervised by Rampat.
