A day for the kids at MovieTowne

THE LOBBY of the MovieTowne cineplex was a buzz of activity yesterday as over 1,000 children from approximately 13 schools, centres and homes across the country were treated to movies, refreshments and gifts at the cineplex’s Invaders Bay, Audrey Jeffers Highway premises.  The establishment was hosting its premier Christmas charity event for underprivileged children.

The excited children, the majority ranging from ages two to 17, started arriving by busloads from as early as 8.15am and were in awe of the lights and Christmas trees in the beautifully decorated lobby.  One teenager from the St Mary’s Children’s Home described the scene as “beautiful like Heaven.” Four of the theatres were reserved for the kids, who sat restlessly in anticipation of the start of the movie.  They were given the options of viewing either Elf or Loony Toons.  While they waited they were served with refreshments comprising hotdogs, french fries, chicken nuggets, ice cream, popcorn and drinks by Movie Towne  and William H Scott Ltd staff.

In keeping with the spirit of the Yuletide season, Santa Claus made a guest appearance.  He was loaded with  gifts for the children. The insatiable kids were also given party bags filled with snacks. MovieTowne’s Marketing Manager Natalie Purvis and Concessions Manager Kathy Ann Sayers both agreed that the response to the invitations was overwhelming and they attributed the apparent success of the event to the teamwork of the MovieTowne staff and the many sponsors. They said the event, which had taken approximately one month to plan, was expected to be hosted annually.
