Champ Carlista in devastating mood

Rain washed out the entire early day’s play yesterday, delaying the start of the tournament which is recognised as the Tennis Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT’s) national championships.

Mohammed, the top seed, was hardly troubled against Knight, taking the match without dropping a single game winning 6-0, 6-0.

The 2009 Tennis TT Player of the Year remains the player to beat and showed that she will not relinquish her title easily.

Also winning impressively in round one was Trevine Sellier who swept aside Jacklyn Costello in straight set as well.

Sellier took the opening set 6-0 and continued to dominate her opponent in the second, taking the set at love as well.

Tobago’s Raye Ann Sandy got past Elyse Maggiori in two sets 6-2, 6-4 while Sarah Salandy came from a set down to beat Veslin Charles.

Sandy lost the opener 2-6 but rallied to claim the next two sets 6-4, 6-2 to stay alive in the competition.

The Men’s draw got underway late yesterday evening as well with third seed and former champ Lendl Smith taking on Seve Day in round one.

Luke De Caires came up against David Ramsumair while Tennis TT Male Player of the Year Vaughn Wilson took on Ty Abraham.

Tobagonian Adrian De Silva played Kristyan Valentine. Other matches included Elan Mendes versus Dunstan Denoon, Jelani Davidson against Shaquille Bernard, Aaron Suite versus Ronald Robinson and Mc Colin Fontenelle taking on Stefa Mayers.
