Please retire in peace

THE EDITOR: At COSTAATT there seems to be a preference not for Afro-Trinidadian males 17-24 years old, but for adjunct retired lecturers.

My student-friends say they suffer because of this favouritism. These people fall asleep in class, especially during students’ presentations. They are sometimes late for class, often absent (due to ill health and slow movement) and adhere to outdated methods of teaching.

They already receive a pension from their former workplace (be it UWI, or private companies) and, most of all, they are depriving young qualified people of the jobs they occupy. If one should pay a visit to COSTAATT at the Mt Hope Campus on any afternoon, 5 pm to 8 pm, you will see them literally crawling to their respective classrooms. Added to the above, they are also working part-time elsewhere.

Retirees, please once and for all, retire in peace! Give us young qualified graduates a chance! I am a young graduate who has just gotten married and want to start working towards a house and a family. To do this I need a job. If you people retire, maybe I can secure that position because you people have already had your time. Please give me the chance that you have had!
