Time to move country forward
THE EDITOR: Please permit me space in your newspaper to alert the people of Trinidad and Tobago to the UNC’s real agenda. As a political scientist, I have observed opposition parties the world over attempt to destabilise governments, using the same strategies that the UNC is using — crying racial discrimination and victimisation, non-cooperation, starting “bush fire” protests, fake kidnappings and many other strategies intended to instill fear in the people and distract the nation from the process of democratic governance.
The truth is that no opposition party has ever succeeded in making countries ungovernable by using these senseless strategies. Citizens must appreciate that economic and political stability affects every single citizen — from doubles vendor to chief executive officer, because if money is nor circulating (which will happen in an unstable environment), everybody will suffer.
I find it extremely unfortunate that so-called intelligent people are buying into this rubbish — I expect more from Dr Kirk Meighoo, in particular. Let’s think about our children, our families and our country. Let us remember that we, the people, went to the polls in October 2002 and the majority voted for the government that is currently in power. The PNM was democratically elected. It’s time to move out of election bickering and get down to moving this country forward. Think about it — who is benefiting from subscribing to the UNC’s agenda? Only UNC fanatics, everyone else will suffer.
