This mother needs her cheques
THE EDITOR: A poor and disadvantaged mother has asked Citizens For A Better Trinidad and Tobago (CBTT) to help her in obtaining her public assistance cheque for November of last year as well as for November of this year. She claims to have received her monthly cheques for all other months with the exception of the two months mentioned above.
The single mother receives $320 monthly to help support her two young children. Unlike many of us, this family struggles for survival; yet no one seems to be able to replace a cheque that was misplaced over a year ago. Instead of being understanding and patient with the poor lady, some postal workers laugh at her and even mock her when she goes to the Post Office to collect her cheque or enquire about the lost ones. Then we wonder why there is so much violence in the country. These postal workers and those who are unable to replace her lost public assistance cheque after one year are fortunate that the poor citizen is a peaceful and loving person. CBTT pleads with the authorities to ensure that she gets her cheques for November 2002 and for last month. Her Public Assistance number is 82737. Let this family’s Christmas be a happy one.
