Caribs defend Rugby 7s championship

CARIBS Rugby Football Club will put their title on the line when the 17th annual Carib Beer Inter-national Rugby Sevens tournament begins at the St Mary’s College Grounds, Serpentine Road, St Clair.

The two-day event will commence at noon today with tomorrow’s action kicking off at 10 am. Men and women teams from 11 countries — British Virgin Islands, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, Venezuela, Australia, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, St Vincent, the United States and Britain — will join the top local rugby clubs, including Trinidad Northerns and two Tobago squads, in this weekend’s competition. Fans will also be treated to a variety of activities planned by the organisers, including “The Best Reason to be a real man,” “The Best Reason to guzzle beer,” “The Best Reason to wine down” and “The Best Reason to be a sweetman.” Sponsors for the tournament include Carib Brewery, LIAT, BWIA and TIDCO.
