Suspect held in Westmoorings murder
A 25-year-old Carenage man was detained yesterday for the shooting death of retired Scotiabank employee Annette Farah.
The suspect was arrested at his Abbe Poujade Street, Carenage home and taken to the Port-of-Spain CID where he was interviewed by homicide officers. The man was detained after a sketch of the two suspects was distributed to police stations in the West. The sketches of the two suspects matched the suspect who was arrested early yesterday. Newsday learnt that the suspect will be placed on an identification parade today. Members of the Farah family who witnessed the shooting death were contacted yesterday and asked to attend the ID parade. Investigators told Newsday that neither the gunman who shot and killed Farah nor his accomplice wore masks.
Several members of the Farah family were able to give good descriptions of the killer and his accomplice. Police believe they may be able to solve the murder. Farah, 57, was sitting in the yard of her home around 11 pm last Saturday when she was approached by a gunman who robbed her of jewelry and then shot her in the neck. The killers then ran north along Stuart Road, Westmoorings, and flagged down a passing car. Police officers who were summoned to the scene found a cutlass believed to have been used by the killer’s accomplice. Yesterday, relatives of Farah expressed relief that a suspect was in custody. Investigations are continuing.
