5 held in maxi-taxi with shotgun, ammo
A BAG containing a shotgun, ammunition, a Chinese chopper and a cutlass, was discovered in a maxi-taxi intercepted by police who arrested four men near the Couva Police Station on Thursday.
The four suspects — two aged 19, one aged 21 and one aged 25 — are expected to be charged with possession of arms and ammunition and possession of other weapons (the cutlass and chopper). According to reports, the arrest came following a tip-off around 9.30 am. A party of officers led by Sgt Jeff Jackson and including PCS Brandon John and Khan, stopped the 12-seater green-band maxi-taxi, which was proceeding south along the Couva Southern Main Road. The officers searched the maxi-taxi and found the bag which contained a sawed-off shot gun, four rounds of ammunition, a chopper and a cutlass. The five occupants, all from Claxton Bay, were arrested and taken to the nearby Couva Police Station where they were interrogated. Investigations are continuing.
