$1.8M health centre opens in Valencia

The Eastern Regional Health Authority (ERHA) held the formal opening of the $1.8 million Valencia Outreach Health Centre on Tuesday.

Esau Mohammed chief executive officer ERHA said the centre has been modified from its original structure to include a dedicated area for wellness activities. This wellness centre is to be managed by the community using a mix of community and ERHA staff. The centre will operate outside the traditional health centre hours to allow for health-related programmes such as exercise, lectures and sensitisation sessions. The main objective for the wellness centre, Mohammed said, is to create an environment in the area that will create healthier communities as individuals adopt healthier lifestyles.

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs and parliamentary representative for the area Roger Boynes, in his address, called on the residents of Valencia and environs to make full use of the centre and to ensure that it is well-kept as this will be a place for all from the community. He added this type of activity will also keep the community actively involved as a unit working together and maintaining a good relationship, thereby eliminating some criminal activities in Valencia. He emphasised that the 100 bandits who are terrorising citizens of Trinidad will soon come to an end as his Government is making every effort to put in place the necessary mechanisms for the return of security and safety for the nation.
