Radio ‘host’ using tragedy to promote himself
THE EDITOR: A listener called (on 27-11-03) a certain radio individual to inform him that “furniture” is not inflected to show its number — ie “furniture” singular, “furniture” plural. This basic grammatical fact was lost on the loud mouth, as minutes later he had reverted to type and “furnitures” was back on the air.
Later on this simpleton read “Tunapuna” for “Tumpuna” and followed with “Margarita” for “Maturita,” consistent with his habit of astonishing his audience with displays of chronic stupidity. His condition might be congenital, but undaunted the blabberer continued, “An’ which part yuh tink dey goin’ to sell it?” It might be asked, concerning this victim of oral diarrhoea, “Which part of yuh head yuh flush away this morning?” The question is obviously rhetorical.
One thing is certain: our radio crackpot is a stranger to fair play. He read the complaints of a former hospital patient, the mother of a child who had died in hospital. He noted all her claims but studiously ignored all reports from the other side. This prattler is not merely deficient in literacy but tragically lacks any concept of fair play and logic. A newspaper report was captioned, “No Entrobacteira cases at Mt Hope —NWRHA.” “Running Mouth” seemed unimpressed with that and choose to capitalise callously on the pain of the young, grieving mother. He displayed no sincere sympathy for the woman. He treated her tragedy with scant concern. He ruthlessly used this mother’s bereavement to promote his own image!
Another mother called in pain and grief. Her son had died in hospital under very tragic circumstances. There are indeed all types of fears about what is taking place among the medical professionals in our hospitals. Indeed her claims should be investigated as well. We all know how mothers suffer when their children die. Intense sorrow often distorts the way they perceive things. The grief and pain can overwhelm them. That is our human condition. The minister cannot rush insanely and act “vie qui vie” as we say, certainly not as the “Running Mouth” seems to favour.
Human life is not a trivial matter, and there are serious implications that may arise out of the incidents at the neonatal unit at Mt Hope. Any responsible government will, as this government has done, demand proper accounts concerning the treatment and care given to patients at any health care institution. It will be flagrantly irresponsible to behave as “Running Mouth” and rush to broadcast suggestions of cover up, negligence and incompetence without first having all the pertinent information.
The Minister of Health, John Rahael, has commenced an investigation into and is awaiting a report on this matter. He has assured the public that there is no cover up. First, all the facts must be available, and then appropriate action will be taken. He, unlike those who would ride roughshod over the grief of others, noted the pain of the bereaved and extended his condolences to them. What a contrast to the radio moron.
