Keizer and Lunan ride winners in Barbados
BRIDGETOWN: Trinidadian Lorne Keizer and Jamaican Richard Lunan rode winners on Saturday’s Barbados horse racing programme at the Garrison Savannah.
Keizer guided TT-bred Freshup Lady to victory in the fourth race and Lunan scored aboard Long Bay in the second race, on an afternoon the featured Diamonds International stakes races produced surprise winners. In the second race over 1,100 metres for two-year-olds, Lunan pushed Long Bay to a two-length victory over Time Flies. Keizer, who had scored two wins on Trinidad and Tobago’s Friday afternoon card, finished three lengths ahead in the fourth race astride Freshup Lady for trainer Naz Issa and owner Sir Charles Williams. Freshup Lady is a four-year-old chestnut filly by Freshly Squeezed out of Dance Little Lady.
Officer and Super Style registered wins in the Diamonds International events for two-year-olds. In the Diamonds International for colts and gelding, the 24-1 chance Officer, ridden by Desmond Bryan, won by 2-1/2 lengths. Super Style, who went off at 10-1, produced a fast finish under jockey Paul Leacock to win the fillies section of the Diamonds International by 1-1/4 lengths for leading trainer Bill Marshall. Jamaica-bred Snooky Lou, trained by Jamaican Andrew Nunes, finished second. The 85-year-old Marshall led the trainers with three winners, securing other victories through Starburst in the first and Peace Angel in the eighth race.
