Girl Guide Hut commissioned in Tobago
First Lady Dr Jean Richards, patron of the Girl Guide movement in Trinidad and Tobago, braved the inclement weather in Tobago on Friday to formally commission the island’s Guide Hut located at Milford Road/Orange Hill Road in lower Scarborough.
The Guide Hut, which had over the years become a dilapidated and unsightly structure that had to be eventually abandoned, was demolished and a new building constructed with assistance from the Tobago House of Assembly, individual and corporate sponsors, the Girl Guide executive in Trinidad, as well as the group, Friends of the Trinidad Girl Guides. The project was undertaken in stages over the last few years at a total cost of just under $300,000. In a brief address before cutting the ribbon to officially open the building, Her Excellency strongly urged the girls and young women in Tobago to continue their good work in guiding and “living up to their promise. “The training you undergo here will empower you to grow up and become responsible citizens of the world. As patron, I look forward to supporting your work to enable you to achieve your fullest potential,” she assured.
