Family gets more time to raise kidnap ransom

Kidnappers telephoned the California home of kidnap victim Shane Sawh early yesterday and gave his family more time to raise the $1 million ransom demanded for his safe release.

The call from the well-spoken kidnapper came around 1 am yesterday.
Sewsaran Sawh, the father of the kidnap victim, was allowed to speak to his son for one minute. The boy appeared to be distraught and told his father that he should try to pay some cash to ensure his release.
According to sources, Sawh told the kidnapper that he had not yet raised the ransom and begged for more time to try and raise the cash. The request was granted by the kidnapper. The kidnapper made two other calls to the home of Sawh early yesterday with specific instructions. The kidnapper said that he would call back yesterday.

Around 10 am last Thursday, Shane’s father, who is the owner of Taste and Touch Restaurant and Bar, arrived home and saw his son’s car in the yard with the front doors open. A report was made to the Couva Police Station. Around 8 pm on Thursday, a man telephoned Sawh and demanded the $1 million for the safe release of his son. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad carried out extensive investigations but up until yesterday they still had no leads. Distraught relatives of the kidnap victim told Newsday they were experiencing difficulty raising the ransom money. They pleaded with kidnappers to be more lenient and settle for a smaller amount. Relatives said they are relieved to know that Shane, 20, is still alive and they are eagerly awaiting his release.
