Burglar jailed for three years

A MAN who pleaded guilty to two counts of house-breaking and larceny, committed ten days between each other in the same area, was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour by a San Fernando magistrate.

Anil Samaroo, 25, was sentenced by acting deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court. He pleaded guilty on both charges. Court prosecutor, Cpl Wendell Fernando, said the first incident occurred sometime between October 17 and 18, and involved Neville Sargeant, who secured his home at Pemberton Street, La Romaine on October 17 and went away. When Sargeant returned the following day, he found his house broken into and $500 missing. Between October 27 and November 1, two other men broke into the home of Matthew Parris, also in the La Romaine area. They made off with a microwave oven, a Sharp stereo system and $2,000. PC Ramdass of the San Fernando CID conducted inquiries and subsequently arrested Samaroo. The other accused men, in the second larceny matter, are due to appear in  court later this week.
