TT Under-13s defend against Barbados

BRIDGETOWN: The newly opened Three Ws Oval at the University of the West Indies will host the opening One-Day match of three in the Under-13 cricket goodwill series between Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago today. The ground which hosted its inaugural First-Class earlier this year between the UWI Vice Chancellor’s XI and Australia and is expected to host a match in the Carib Beer 2003 Cricket Series will be the backdrop for the first match of the series at the end of which the winner will receive the Malcolm Marshall Trophy. The second One-Day match will be played tomorrow at the Empire Club, Bank Hall, and the last One-Day match on Tuesday at the Spartan Club in Queen’s Park. TT are the Marshall Trophy holders.

The two teams then get down to business in a two-day “Test” match for the Inshan Ali Trophy that Barbados won last year. This match will also be played at Bank Hall on Thursday and Friday. The Barbadians will field five players that made last year’s trip to the twin-island republic. They are captain Adrian Alleyne, Roston Chase, Marques Clarke, Nick Evans and Jarad Bernadin. If selected, Kraigg Brathwaite, who hit three centuries in the island’s Primary School championship, will generate plenty of interest. TT welcome back three players from last year. Captain Yannic Cariah is one of them and the other two are Shivon Sankar and Rolan Mahabirsingh.

Squads:

BARBADOS: Anthony Alleyne (captain), Marques, Nicholas Evans, Michael Watson, Jared Bernadin, Jamal Phillips, Dario Cummins, Akeil Crookendale, Jason Holder, Shane Dowrich, Roston Chase, Mario Holder, Aaron Burke, Jamar Jordan, Rico Goodridge, Kraigg.
