Mohammeds win Petrotrin Open doubles
THE unrelated Mohammeds, Shenelle and Calista, were crowned doubles champs of the Petrotrin-sponsored National Open Tennis Championships.
The 13-year-old pair disposed of veteran Valerie Pedro-Harris and Sanian Lewis 7-6 (7-1), 6-0 in Sunday’s final at the Public Courts, Princes Building, to chalk up their third straight doubles title, having won at the Southern Classified Championships and Bermudez Open Invitational Top 16 Juniors Tournament previously. For Shenelle, the doubles crown was consolation for her defeat by Rene Branker in the women singles, beaten in three sets. The men’s doubles title went to Jermille Danclar and Rodney Ross, who disposed of the Hinds brothers, Curtis and Owen in three sets. And Michael Cooper took the veterans’ singles title beating Athelstan Phillips in the final.
