The Pompek
Pekingese were bred in China for centuries but only became known in Europe after 1860. Pomeranians also became popular in the late 19th century and were exhibited in the UK from about 1870 onwards. Both breeds have particular characteristics which have combined to produce the PomPek that we know now.
Pekingese dogs have flattened faces, broad skulls, prominent eyes, feathered tails that curl over their backs and slightly bandy front legs. They are strong willed little dogs, sometimes brave to the point of stupidity. A Pekingese believes it is a match for any other dog and better than most. Perhaps surprisingly, they can make good little hunters — mice being favourite prey. They are companions who will be with you for a long time, as they often live well into their teens.
Pomeranian dogs originated in Germany as a miniature of the German Spitz.
