TT Under-13s retain Inshan Ali Trophy
BRIDGETOWN: Trinidad and Tobago retained the Inshan Ali Trophy, symbol of two-day, Under-13 cricket supremacy against neighbours Barbados, when their match at the Empire Club, Bank Hall, ended in a draw yesterday.
Replying to TT’s first innings total of 299 for eight declared, Barbados were dismissed for 164. But the visitors did not enforce the follow-on, choosing to bat a second innings that reached 45 for two when stumps were drawn for the final time. After TT declared at their overnight position, the Barbadians found scoring runs against their opponents slow bowling difficult. Marques Clarke hit the top score of 52, Anthony Alleyne scored 32, Mario Holder gathered 29, and Michael Watson made 11 and Roston Chase got 10 to be the main contributors for the Barbadians.
Khesan Ottley was the pick of the TT bowlers with three wickets for 11 runs from 14 overs, seven of which were maidens, and captain Yannic Cariah, a century-maker on the opening day of the match, returned to grab three for 27 from 14 overs. Shaahid Mohammed and Nicholas Rampersad also bagged two wickets apiece. Barbados retained the Malcolm Marshall Trophy, the symbol of excellence in one-day cricket between the two teams, after a 2-1 series win.
