Watch for Twice The Jet, Albert The Ship

TWICE THE JET and Albert The Ship continue to shape well and looked ready to make their debut  to local racing with an exciting gallop on the at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on Thursday.

The pair of American-bred juveniles attached to the trainer Kenneth De Silva Jnr barn were noted doing light exercises during the past months but showed their true potential with a pleasant run over 800 metres in 47.45 seconds. Their effort from the 800 metres marker in the backstretch to the winning line proved best on time for the distance on the morning, and earned the pair “good” in the remarks colum of the Arima Race Club official clockers report. Lady Honoree had been laid up for some time but the American import from trainer Harold Chadee’s string showed she has lost none of her fire. The three-year-old did not show her usual headstrong habit and strode out nicely over the last 1000 metres of the main course in a polished 1:02.02 seconds.

Dottie’s Way was another to have enjoyed her work on the morning. The bay daughter of Ordway/Headed North has raced consistenly well in top company and if the manner in which she layed out over 1200 metres, for which she posted 1:22.52 seconds, is anything to go by, then a good performance is expected from her in the Guardian Gold Cup on Boxing Day. Premier Attraction came out later and went much faster over the same acreage. The Rohit Dube-trained chestnut went at a steady clip throughout his spin stopping the clock at the winning post in 1:17.84 seconds. Trainer Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj has a number of runners entered on the Guardian Holdings Limited-sponsored Boxing Day programme. He has dominated the two-year-old races this season and has been paying particular attention to his babes with the hope of closing off the 2003 racing season with wins in the Guardian St James Stakes or the Guardian St Anns Stakes. The majority of his juveniles were out yesterday stepping up on their work.
