Over And Above a spoiler in St James

DEBUTANT Over And Above could well be a spoiler in this Year’s Guardian Life St James Stakes for two-year-old colts and geldings on Boxing Day (Friday), at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

The juvenile from the Jack Debideen stable had the older Bonus Point for company as he whipped around a 600 metres gallop from the boxes yesterday,  in the good time of 35.15 seconds. And Salsa Moves, one of the favourites for the 1350 metres race worth $75,000, was very easy over a similar distance in 38.43 seconds. Laura’s Boy, another entrant for the St James, stepped the 600 metres trip in 38.87 seconds, while Melanie My Love was clocked in 37.53 seconds for the trip. Another runner from the Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj stable, Mister Hypocrit posted the best time for a 400 metres spin completed in 23.88 seconds.

Also having a fine gallop over this trip was Tricky Guy who was timed in 23.95 seconds. Second Chance who holds the St James engagement had a lively gallop over 600 metres in company with Space Cadet, clocked in 36.16 seconds. Only Canaima and Morgan Heritage of the nine runners in the feature Guardian Gold Cup over 200 metres were seen out yesterday. The Irish-bred Canaima had a decent run over 600 metres in 37.90 seconds, while Morgan Heritage was seen pacing over 400 metres in 29.11 seconds.
