El Tucuche tower in Curepe League

EL TUCUCHE Football Club walked away with the double, in the senior division, as the 2003 Curepe Football League concluded recently. In the Community Knockout, El Tucuche were rewarded with 16 jerseys and trousers after copping the title, with runners-up House of Dread being presented with 16 jerseys for their efforts. And the lads from the Northern Range captured their second title in a row when they defeated San Juan/San Juan 4-3 in the League/Big 4 final at the Knowles Street Recreation Grounds, Curepe on Sunday last. S Peters notched a pair for the winners with M Cooper and D Simon netting one apiece while C Simmons scored two and K Jacob one for San Juan. Derek James of El Tucuche was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the competition while his team also received $2,000 and the Challenge Trophy with San Juan getting $1,000 plus a trophy.

And trophies were handed out to the third-placed Shocking Vibes and fourth-placed House of Dread. The organisers of the tournament also expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Sports, Marcia Stewart of Citrus Growers’ Association, Donna Cox of National Flour Mills, Don La Foucade, Toby Ali, Glenrick King, Goose Ragbir, Azad Khan, Gregory Pierre, Shirley Willis, Franklyn Harracksingh, Ancil Elcock as well as the referees and groundsmen for their efforts during the season.
