Jabloteh hold edge in CFU club final
CL FINANCIAL San Juan Jabloteh need only a draw in today’s second leg Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship final against W Connection, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, to advance to the 2004 CONCACAF Club Championships.
In the first leg on December 17 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, Jabloteh got a double from former national midfielder Angus Eve to edge Connection 2-1. Today’s match will kick off at 6 pm with Connection required to go for broke in order to retain their CFU title and book a spot in the eight-team CONCACAF tournament. A lot is expected from both teams.
Eve will wear the captain’s armband in the absence of the injured goalkeeper Kelvin Jack but that is the only real setback for Jabloteh, who will feature the likes of strikers Cornell Glen, Devon Mitchell and Nigel “Croc” Pierre, midfielders Otis Seaton, Kerry Baptiste, Trent Noel, Travis Mulraine and Michael Celestine, as well as defenders Ronald Primus, Nigel Daniel and Keyeno Thomas, all national senior and Under-23 players.
Connection, under first-year coach Silvio Spann, will pin their hopes on national captain Reynold Carrington, fellow defenders Elijah Joseph and Lyndon Diaz, midfielders Gefferson Goulart, Ronaldo Viana, Kenwyne Jones and Arnold Dwarika, in addition to strikers Kendall Davis, George Isaac, Titus Elva and the improving Jason Marcano.
