Boxer Salandy comes of age
TOP local female boxer Giselle Salandy comes of age on January 25, 2004. On that date, schoolgirl Salandy will attain the age of 17, when she can legally seek a professional boxing licence. And already plans are in the pipeline for a defence of her 140lb Ibero World title. The bout is tentatively set for January 30, five days after Salandy celebrates her birthday, at the Chaguanas Indoor Sports Complex. She is expected to defend against Paola Rojas of Curacao, from whom she took the title in Willemstad a year ago.
According to an informant, everything has been put in place for the title bout with contracts already drawn up. Permission has also been granted for the title fight by the Women International Boxing Association (WIBA). But the informant warned, all this is dependent on the Trinidad Boxing Board of Control granting their blessings. Promoter Cecil Forde who will be staging the bout said yesterday, he plans to meet with the TBBC very soon, to put forward his proposals for permission.
