TTOC pick top Sportsman, Sportswoman

WHO will it be for this year’s Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards? Last year’s winner Kertson Manswell will again be a candidate, but will face stiff challenges from swimmer George Bovell and athlete Darrel Brown. But picking the women could be a very tricky assignment. These questions will be answered tonight, when the TTOC host their annual awards ceremony at the VIP Lounge, Hasely Crawford Stadium from 7.30 pm.

President George Maxwell Richards has been invited to attend and distribute awards. Also down to be announced are awards to the Sports Personality of the Year, Sport and Education, and the Alexander B Chapman Award. At last year’s ceremony, swimmer Linda McEachrane took the Sportswoman title while amateur boxer Manswell won the Sportsman crown. Shooting coach Brent Thomas received the Sports Personality award last year, while the kayaking duo of Wayne Crooks and Jean Talma got the Chapman award. Jarryd Haynes a student at Presentation College, San Fernando, took the Sport and Education award, while special recognition was given to ex-Director of Sport Neville Chance, Peter Minshall, and Ann Browne for her contribution to women in Sport.
