Ames a hero says Canadian golf coach

THERE were 45 junior golfers at the Republic Bank-sponsored “Strive for Excellence” Canada-Trinbago Junior Golf Course. Under the tutorship of Canadian Henry Brunton, the course got underway on Sunday. Brunton made it clear that Trinidadian Stephen Ames should be looked upon as a hero. Ames who became a Canadian citizen earlier this month, is now ranked second behind Mike Wier on the Canada golf circuit.

Following motivating classroom sessions, Brunton took the 30 Trinidadians and 15 Canadians for short-game lessons. The youngsters teed-off on the Pointe-a-Pierre Golf Course in a two-team foursome in a Texas Scramble series,  withwhich each team comprising one Canadian and three locals. Both teams finished tied at 11-under par (par is 72). Team One featured Andrew An (Canada), Martine de Gannes, Jesse Boocock, Jonathon Low (St Andrew’s). Team Two comprised Mark Hoffman (Canada), Victoria Seenath (P-a-P), Mitchum Jasper (Chaguaramas), Kyle Knaggs (Moka). Day two of the coaching/tournament series was contested yesterday on a high-low format at Plantations Golf Course in Tobago.
