Mayor praises Petrotrin sponsorship

ENTHUSIASTIC residents of Marabella recently gathered at the Marryshow/Brisbane Basketball Court in Battoo Avenue, Marabella to attend the prize-giving ceremony for the Petrotrin-sponsored 2003 Marabella Basketball and Football League. The ceremony began with an exhibition match between the league’s winners Petro Jazz and pre-tournament favourites Detour Shak Attack. The encounter went down to a nail-biting finish, but in the end.PetroJazz were forced to accept defeat. In his address, San Fernando Mayor Ian Atherley praised Petrotrin’s continued involvement in Marabella and the company’s other bordering communities.

Mayor Atherly gave further testament to Petrotrin’s commitment adding: “I can say with authority, having spoken with a lot of the key players in the company, that the company intends to become even more involved in these communities.” The mayor is a former national cycling champion. San Fernando Deputy Mayor Malika Blair also praised Petrotrin for their efforts in “fostering community spirit and contributing to human development in the Marabella community.” During the prize giving ceremony which followed, the league winners were not  the only ones to walk away with prizes as awards for the  “Best of the Rest” and “Most Valuable Player” were distributed.
