No one is above the law

THE EDITOR: On Tuesday December 30, 2003 at 7.03 pm I was guilty of using the Priority Bus Route (PBR) and was stopped by a traffic officer during a road block exercise and deservedly given a ticket.

As I stood near my car awaiting my ticket, I witnessed two other officers allow three private vehicles (at different points in time), none with PBR passes, to continue along the PBR after discovering that the drivers were off-duty officers. I questioned the officer who had pulled me over about what I had just seen and he told me he could provide no answer. He said I could question whomever I want but I will get no answer. I was guilty of an offence and was deservedly fined. Others were guilty of the same offence but were allowed to break the law because they were police officers. As simple as the offence may seem, it is the principle involved in that matter. The problem I have with the police officers that upkeep the law is apparently they believe that as enforcers they are above the law. I thought we live in a republic where all persons are equally subjected to the rule of law, no matter what profession!
