Citation for Armond at Jetsam Awards

EX-CHIEF Executive Officer of the Arima Race Club Christopher J Armond, will be the guest speaker at this year’s Jetsam Awards, when top performers on the local horse racing scene will be honoured. Again this year, the awards ceremony will be co-hosted by Neal & Massy Group of Companies and the Betting Levy Board, and will be held at Hilton Trinidad. Jamaican-born Armond will have as his theme Horse Racing in the West Indies. Armond is also listed to receive a special citation from the ARC for his contribution to Caribbean racing, so too the late John Derek Cozier, Elias Haloute, veterinarian Dr Steve Bennett and owner-breeder-trainer Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj. And special awards from the Trinidad and Tobago Racing Authority will go to Ronald N Kowlessar, Emmanuel B Annisette and ex-jockey and trainer, the Jamaica-born Lester Newman.

Both triple crown winner Top Of The Class and the American-bred Sugar Mike, have been nominated in two categories. The Student was nominated as the top three-year-old colt/gelding along with stablemate Celebration Time and the West Indies-bred stayer, while the Sugar Daddy has been nominated for the Imported Sprinter and Imported Stayerbracket. And the adjudicators will have to choose between Top Of The Class and Sugar Mike for the title of Horse of the Year. Nominees for the top two-year-old filly are Melanie My Love, Trini To D Bone, Java Takeover and Dealer’s Choice. While Salsa Moves and Pave The Way are in a straight fight for the juvenile colts/geldings title. Golden Honour and Sweet Tempo are the nominees for the top three-year-old filly, while Smooth Operator, Napoleon and Man Of Class are in the running for the award as West Indies-bred sprinter crown.
