First Citizens helps parang
The National Parang Association received a special treat last Christmas in the form of a $15,000 donation from First Citizens Bank. The donation was presented to the Paranderos of the Los Ninos De Santa Rosa Parang group, as prize money for placing fourth in the recently concluded National Parang festival. The Parang finals were held on December 13, at the Parang headquarters, Priority Mall, O’Meara Road, Arima, where the audience was treated to a night of festive cultural music. According to President of the Parang Association, Michael Lezama, this year’s parang finals enjoyed the largest turnout in 15 years. He expressed his sincere thanks to FCB for their continued support over the years and urged the community to get more involved in parang, particularly in schools, to help propagate the artform.
